BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Of Dr. Richard Holton ——

Dr. Richard Holton is a retired lieutenant and thirty-year veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department.  He received his Bachelors Degree in Political Science from North Carolina A&T State University and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Miami. He received his Doctoral Degree from Nova Southeastern University in the field of Organizational Leadership and Education, with a specialization in Multi-Cultural Diversity, and Conflict Resolution. He currently serves as an adjunct professor for St. Thomas University in Miami Florida, and a Subject Matter Expert, Management-Leadership Specialist  for the City of Miami Police Department.

 

Dr. Holton is a certified trainer for the Criminal Justice Institute, and is considered to be an exceptional public speaker, workshop facilitator, and seminar leader in the principals of Leadership and Management.  He has held numerous positions within the Miami-Dade Police Department that includes the Community Affairs Bureau, Uniform Patrol, Safe Streets, Organized Crime Bureau, General Investigations Unit, Personnel Management Bureau, and past commander of the Executive Development Institute while assigned to the MDPD Training Bureau.

 

Dr. Holton has also served as an elected Councilman for the Village of Coconut Grove, Miami, Florida, President Emeritus for the Coconut Grove Local Development Corporation, and Vice Chairman of the South Florida Human Rights Council.  He has been a certified Kingian Nonviolence Practitioner since 1993, with the Florida Martin Luther King, Jr., Institute for Nonviolence. Since then, Dr. Holton has trained police officers, politicians, community leaders, and at-risks youths in the principles and skills of Kingian Nonviolence throughout the world. Dr. Holton is also certified by the Supreme Court of Florida, as a family mediator, and served as a consultant with the Miami Coalition for a Safe and Drug Free Community. He was founder and the President/CEO of Teen Police Academy, Inc., Dr. Rick Holton & Associates, P.A., and Chairman of the Coconut Grove Land Trust. His international travels include Panama, Columbia, Nigeria (Delta) South Africa, Morocco, Italy, Spain, Canada, Australia, Brazil,  and India.
